Most cultures have a world tree or tree of life that symbolically connects the earth to the heavens. Its roots go deep into the Underworld (cthonic), the trunk grows through our own Middleworld (terrestrial), and its branches extend into the Upperworld (celestial). This image is based on some trance experiences that I have had with the tree as a guide in the Faery realm. The serpent that descends its trunk is the Gnostic Sophia who brings the wisdom of the Gods. The blue rose is the unfolding mystery, to which we may bear witness to, if only we learn to see.
